About the works: All of the pieces displayed on this page are original works, which I have created. However, the pieces for the American Red Cross Project were created with the help of my teammates from my Public Relations Strategy class at Chico State. All class assignments and projects were created between 2006 and 2007 for journalism courses at Chico State. Most of the class projects are accompanied by memos, where letterhead was also designed as part of the assignment.

The projects that used Starbucks, In-N-Out Burger, Costco Wholesale, Crest and the San Jose Sharks, were for the use of class assignments only.

In the Photojournalism section, there are a few photos from my photojournalism class, along with some artistic photos from my travels in Europe during the summer of 2008.

"Real Client" Projects: The American Red Cross was a real client of the Fall 2006 Public Relations Strategy class. Some pieces, such as the display box and parts of the media kit, were used by the Butte/Glenn Counties Branch of the American Red Cross.  In 2007, the brochure for Strings in Schools was distributed to more than 2,000 students in Paradise, Calif.  A handful of pieces were created for The Fairmont Hotel San Jose including a flier for the 2008 San Jose Rock n' Roll Marathon, a flier and menu for a Wine Maker's Dinner, and fliers for employee events. The newsletter for San Jose Unified School District was created to be distributed to more than 500 employees, but unfortunately the event was postponed.  The flier for the Eat. Drink. Save Lives. was distributed to participants of Team In Training, family, friends and co-workers, and organizations with in community.

Other Blogs: Emory's Creations showcases my passion of baking and my edible creations.  Emory Runs shares my training and running experiences.  This blog is only about my first half marathon and full marathon with Team In Training, however I have complete three full marathons and ten half marathons to date! And Emory In Europe from my 2007 three month trip across Europe.

Should you have any questions about any of these pieces or my experience, please feel free to contact me through e-mail at emorykf@hotmail.com.

Enjoy!

Flier & Menu - Fairmont Hotel Wine Maker's Dinner - Real Client

Each month the Fairmont Hotel San Jose hosts a Wine Maker's Dinner, where a five course meal is paired with different types of wines from a select winery.
This flier and menu were created for the December 2009 - Chalk Hill Event.
More than one hundred people received the flier through e-mail, while forty guests attended the event and were presented with the menu.

The flier is a single sided, full sheet color spread.

The menu is a two-page spread.  It features the winery of the month on the front, space for tasting notes along side the menu on the inside spread, and upcoming events and dinners on the back side.

Newsletter - San Jose Sharks - Class Project

This newsletter was created for a class project at Chico State.

Assignment: Create a 4 page newsletter for an organization of your choice, using only 2 colors.

I created an 8 page newsletter for the 2006-07 San Jose Sharks Season Ticket Holders. The newsletter was designed as an end of season thank you to the fans and to recap the season. The two colors I used were black and teal. All stories and news is true, and written by me.

The pages are below on 4 spreads.
1st spread: back and front covers
2nd spread: pages 2 and 7
3rd spread: pages 3 and 6
4th spread: pages 4 and 5

Below is the memo which accompanies the newsletter. The newsletter is written from an "account coordinator" at a Public Relations firm to Doug Wilson, the General Maanger of the San Jose Sharks. Graham Associates contracted with the Sharks to help with the newsletter.

Advertisement - In N Out Burger - Class Project

This advertisement was made for a class assignment at Chico State.

The assignment was to take a position on cloning cows, use an existing company and create an advertisement with your position.

I chose to say "no" to cloning cows, and use In-N-Out Burger as my company. Every thing at In-N-Out Burger is fresh and natural, so why would they want to use cloned cows?

Other students used companies such as Ben and Jerry's, Outback Steakhouse and Horizon Organic.

Brochure - Crest - Class Project

The Crest brochure I created is a six panel, die cut brochure with a tear off coupon. The full color brochure was designed for a class assignment. The assignment was to create a brochure of any size and shape for a specific ethnic audience and have a behavioral objective. The audience I chose was African-Americans and the focus was dental health. This brochure has two behavioral objectives: 1. to have families use the $3 off coupon and 2. to educate African-American children about the importance of good oral health.
Below is the two page brochure spread. The tube of toothpaste creates the die cut.
Following the brochure, is the memo for the brochure which explains it in more detail.

Press Release - Costco - Class Project

My assignment was to use a real company and use a real item or service which demonstrates the corporate social responsibility of the company. Although the information is from real life, I had to create the letterhead.

I used Costco Wholesale and their partnership with Children's Miracle Network. During the month of May, Costco Wholesale collects donation for CNM. The following press release explains what Costco does and how it improves the program each year.

Brochure - Strings in Schools - Real Client

Strings in Schools is a youth music program in Paradise, Calif., run by the Paradise Symphony Orchestra. During the spring semester of 2007, I held an internship with the Strings in Schools program. I created a variety of materials including a informational list of all the schools in Paradise and the surrounding areas, a press release, fact sheet and a brochure.
The brochure I created for Strings in Schools is six panel, two fold style. It also has photos that match up with panel 2 and 5.

Newsletter - SJUSD - Real Client

This is a two page newsletter that I designed for San Jose Unified School District.
I only worked on the design and layout, as the content was provided by SJUSD staff.

Fact Sheet - Red Cross - Class Project

Action Strategies & Tactics - Red Cross - Class Project

In the fall of 2006, I was required to take "Public Relations Strategy". In this class, we were assigned groups and had to create a plan book for a real organization/client. We had to create our own company name, logo and letterhead. Our name was "Five Star Communications". We also had to create a company style guide, in addition to adhering to the Associated Press Style Guide.

Our client was the American Red Cross - Butte/Glenn Counties Branch. The branch had just re-opened in Chico at a new location with new management. Our assignment was to be a PR Firm and create multiple ways to inform the community of the Red Cross. We created multiple action strategies with a variety of tactics and explanations of how to execute the plans. We created a letter head for the Red Cross, along with a press release, fact sheet and handouts.

Below is the third strategy we created, printed on our letterhead as we were presenting our work to the Red Cross.

Graphs - Red Cross - Class Project

The graphs below demonstrate some of the skill sets I have within Microsoft Excel.
The information for the graphs is real, from people surveyed within Butte and Glenn counties, for the Red Cross project I worked on in 2006.

Fact Sheet - Starbucks - Class Project

This fact sheet was created for my final project in my Public Relations Publications class. Each student had to use an existing company and create a new product or campaign.

I chose Starbucks for my company and created "Blue Cup Month". Each year, during the month of March, Starbucks would turn the hot beverage cups blue (like the red holiday cups) and 10 cents from each drink purchase would benefit the American Cancer Society.

There were multiple parts to this project including a fact sheet, press release, outreach media tool, a presentation and a media brief. All artwork, including the letterhead, was part of the creativity for this project. Below is the fact sheet for "Blue Cup Month". All facts have been created.
